Painful Choices (Details to Follow!)

This is an awesomely lovely compilation of Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX), Rep. John Shadegg (R-AZ), California GOP Senate nominee Carly Fiorina, Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA), House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH), Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Rep. John Boozman (R-AR), Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH), and Sen. John Cornyn (R-AZ), all punting on the question of “Well, if the GOP wants to ‘cut spending,’ what spending do you want to cut?”

Note, by the way, that “an across-the-board reduction in budgets” is a chicken-shit answer. It’s pushing the painful decisions (and responsibility) down to the trenches. It treats all programs as equally worthy/worthless. It’s like saying, “Honey, we need to cut our household budget by 5%. So we’re going to spend 5% less on allowances, 5% less on utilities, 5% less on gasoline, 5% less on golf, 5% less on food, and 5% less on comic books. Now you figure out the specifics.”

The GOP hopes that by simply chanting a mantra of “cut spending” they can get into office, then decide what spending they want to cut, what spending they want to increase, whose ox will be gored, and whose will be fattened. If you really are interested in fiscal responsibility, as a voter, then press your favorite candidate for specifics. They’ve been chanting this mantra for decades; if they don’t have an answer by now, they’re just blowing smoke.
