Unblogged Bits (Tue. 19-Oct-10 1730)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. Military recruiters told they can accept openly gay applicants – CNN.com – My best wishes to those enlisting (including Lt Daniel Choi, who is re-enlisting).
  2. Tom Bosley of ‘Happy Days’ dead at 83 – CNN.com
  3. Elvira: “I’m Not a Witch.” – Boing Boing – HA!
  4. 99 Problems But a Cape Ain’t One: Conservatives Attack Islamic Superheroes – ComicsAlliance | Comics culture, news, humor, commentary, and reviews – I’m not sure which is worse — the production values of the cartoon, or the asinine ideological criticisms being leveled against it.
  5. Stonewalling Stonehenge | fotoLibra Blog – Reading through the comments is interesting, as part of this is a result of the UK government defunding group like EH, sending them scrambling for monies. I don’t think they are going to get very far with this, esp. if they try to move to the next logical step of claiming ownership of all non-commercial or Creative Commons photos of Stonehenge.
  6. Calvin and Hobbes for October 17, 2010 – I think this is Katherine, sometimes …
  7. Computerworld Reviews LastPass – My password manager of choice.
  8. Justice Dept. Goes After Blue Cross Blue Shield Of Michigan – If BCBS is pulling that sort of crap, then I’m glad DoJ’s after them.
  9. 17,000 Docs, Some Who Had Sex With Patients, Scarf Big Pharma Payola – Already checked my doctor and, um, one in the family. Neither were on the list, I was pleased to see.
  10. iPhone App: Scan Barcode, Get Consumer Reports Ratings – Sounds cool (price aside), but I have to wonder how flexible it will be with the wide array of products out there. One perennial problem with CR is they never seem to have reviewed the model you’re looking at …
  11. Comcast Political Giving Up 61% Since Announcing NBC Deal – Best government oversight money can buy!
  12. The company Allen West keeps, cont’d – I don’t care if they were “veterans” or “thugs,” their behavior was unacceptable, and West’s use of them equally so.
  13. When big pharma breaks the law, prosecute the CEO – opinion – 19 October 2010 – New Scientist

  1. LastPass automatically fills in forms? Not for me! I have to click the button, click Fill Forms, and click my profile. Did I miss a setting somewhere?

  2. I don’t believe it will autofill forms, but it will autofill userid/passwords if told to (Preferences / General / General / Automatically fill login information).

  3. Did I misunderstand this?

It was the only product to automatically populate and submit my credentials to a Web site as soon as I surfed to a Web site — no button-clicking required.
