Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- The TSA Needs to Opt Out of Tweeting – The TSA has tried to show a human face in its social media interactions, but that’s at such a remove from what most folks encounter them in real life, that it’s next to useless. Be professional, be persuasive, and build confidence — and you might not be replaced by private rent-a-hacks (God help us).
- Zebras Ngorongoro Crater.jpg [POTD for November 20 from commons.wikimedia.org] – Zebras rock.
- The Nord 1500 Griffon II, experimental ramjet-powered fighter… – Man, I think I drew a thousand drawings of planes that looked like this when I was a kid.
- The Mood – Zits for 11/25/2010 – For all you NaNoWriMoists out there …
- My Helical Tryst: Review of the TSA X-ray backscatter body scanner safety report: hide your kids, hide your wife – Here is my major concern over the new zap-or-grope regime: there are valid, mainstream, important concerns over the technologies being used here, and the TSA is basically hand-waving them away. I travel infrequently enough, I’m not AS concerned … but I’m stil concerned.
- Al Qaeda isn’t Lex Luthor : Thoughts from Kansas – “We’ll get attacked again. However good our security is, we aren’t Superman, we aren’t invulnerable, and al Qaeda will find a way to hurt us. But they aren’t Lex Luthor, either. They won’t go after the very hardest targets, they’ll go where security is weakest. And we can beat them. If the general public doesn’t spot something odd, and if intelligence and security teams fail to disrupt a planned attack, we can work towards making a society resilient to the occasional successful terrorist attack. But freaking out, allowing ourselves to be groped in public by untrained rent-a-cops, isn’t the answer.”
- Badass Quote of the Day [Dispatches from the Culture Wars] – Yup. It’s truly upsetting how many people think Ms Palin should be the President of the United States.
- 50 Free Apps We’re Most Thankful For [Downloads] – I know and use a lot of these. And now I want to look at the rest.

6. I imagine that Al Qaeda is very pleased with our security obsession. “Look how scared they are! Phase 1 is almost complete.” I honestly think we are doing more harm than good by taken such extreme measures to “protect” ourselves. We must look like idiots to the rest of the world.
8. Hmm. I have five of those installed. 10%. Must… download… more free apps! Do I get bonus points for having Pandora on my phone and both televisions as well as on my PC?
