Unblogged Bits (Mon. 13-Dec-10 1630)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. Open Question: Does a link = endorsement? – I have a liberal arts background — citations (the old-school form of hyperlinking) are drummed into me. Yeah, I point to a lot of stuff I think folks will find interesting; but sometimes I link to folks I think are particularly doltish, because I want you to have the opportunity to experience something not just filtered by my perspective.
  2. The Obama Tax Plan: A Matter of Principle – I do keep hoping that there is some secret, cunning plan behind all of this. I guess we’ll see.
  3. How To Move Mystery Songs From Your Brain To Your MP3 Player – Sometimes I marvel at the amazing world I live in.
  4. Actual persecution vs imagined persecution – Just as the rich see the loss of a temporary tax cut as some sort of class vendetta against them, while ignoring the plight of the unemployed, so too many conservative Christians play the “persecution” card when they’re not allowed to co-opt the town square, while ignoring what real religious persecution looks like. (Rather, they don’t ignore it, but they don’t see how it makes their own claims look petty and childish.)
  5. Incoming GOP Financial Services Chairman: Washington’s Role Is ‘To Serve The Banks’ – Quoth Rep Spencer Bachus (R-AL): “In Washington, the view is that the banks are to be regulated, and my view is that Washington and the regulators are there to serve the banks.” Well, at least he’s honest abut whom he’s there to serve.
  6. Google hides mathematical puzzle in Cr-48 video, rewards its solver with a laptop – Very cool.

  1. 3. Midomi knew about half of the classical, big band, and TV/film music I hummed. Not sure how much that reflects on my musical ability, though.
