Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- The reason for Boehner’s ovation – I’m sure that there are some Dems who are “rooting” for a shutdown because they think it will hurt the GOP, but the GOP not only seems to think it will hurt the Dems more, but will make their base happy (at least until their SSI checks don’t come in).
- Supreme Court Thwarts Challenge of Religious School Subsidies; Taxpayer Standing Demolished – That sounds like some clever hair-splitting to reach a desired goal. Which is sort of what those conservatives are always complaining about with “activist courts.” Very unfortunate, regardless.
- Extraordinary Uses for 16 Ordinary Household Items – Some interesting ideas here I need to go back and read in more detail.
- Unlock With WiFi Disables Your Password-Protected Lockscreen When You’re on Your Home Network [Downloads] – Clever.
- Mozilla reveals Firefox plugins that slow down performance the most – Some of these I no longer use (or have disabled except when I do use them). Others I would find it hard to use the Internet without (but may see if I can tune to determine when they check and download info).
- Report: FTC Considering Giving Google A Good Probing – It’s not clear to me the basis for an anti-trust probe of Google related to Search. I’m not aware of any untoward business practices from Google on that point, and, as they point out, “The competition is just a click away.”
- Obama: Giving Up on Change When it Comes to 9/11 Trials – On the one hand, it’s clear the Obama Administration wants to do civilian trials. On the other hand, it’s clear that Congress (with the GOP as the ringleaders) have made it impossible at the moment. On the gripping hand, it’s not clear how hard the Obama Administration has fought back (or how hard they should). Regardless, it’s a black eye for the US as a whole.
- How Do You Get Conservatives To Understand Marriage Equality? Guns. – Using gun rights as an analogy to marriage rights … interesting.
- BBC News – Gauguin painting in Washington DC attacked by woman – OMG! IT’S BOOBIES! AND THERE’S TWO WOMEN WITH BOOBIES, SO IT MUST BE LESBIAN BOOBIES! EEK!
- Maine Governor’s Decision To Have Labor Mural Removed Will Cost His State – I’m sure he’ll figure out a way to fire a teacher to pay for it.
