+1 to teh WIN for the Mike Mulligan reference!
In re-reading the E.R. Burroughs novels I was surprised by two things: 1) they’re still pretty darn good adventure novels and 2) Dang! Those books are mighty sexist and xenophobic!
As a person who voluntarily took on a hyphenated last name upon getting married, I totally agree with your eCommerce comment. Very frustrating.
I was very pleased with the Mike Mulligan quip. I loved that book as a kid.
I agree with both your comments on ERB. Been a long time since I read any Tarzan or Pelicidar, but I was struck in PoM how (a) the females are either kindly and nurturing, evil and vindictive, or lovely and ornamental. Dejah Thoris is definitely among the last category. And (b) the noble white man (and a Gentleman Captain from Virginia) will lead them, conquer them, out-class them, and teach them about being civilized.
Of course, you could argue something similar about LotR.
It’s not frequent, but always surprising (and frustrating) when I get some site not accepting hill-kleerup.org as an email domain. Fortunately I have a gmail.com account I can use in lieu of, but … argh.
