- Competing with free: anime site treats piracy as a market failure – If you provide folks with what they want, when they want it, and how they want it, they will actually pay for it. When you don’t — at least some people won’t.
- (title unknown) – I can point to any number of movies that have been critically panned that got boffo box office — for being entertaining and involving and worth seeing for some reason. So don’t blame “the critics” for your movie flopping like a dead fish.
- Just face it: The Universe is out to kill you. – “Still, it’s upsetting to think that you can’t fix one problem without potentially causing a different one in the process. To my inner cynic this is just proof that you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t.” There’s a myth that there’s some sort of Perfect Health that can be achieved, if you just have the right diet, lifestyle, exercise, etc. There’s not. It’s all a matter of trade-offs, risks and benefits, costs, and so forth — and you can still have some genetic flaw, or congenital condition, or get hit by a bus. Which doesn’t mean be stupid, but it does mean that the stress of trying to achieve perfect health is, itself, probably unhealthy.
- The Defense Department Gets It – “Our first investment priority, then, is intellectual capital and a sustainable infrastructure of education, health and social services to provide for the continuing development and growth of America’s youth.” But … but … that doesn’t help GE’s bottom line this quarter!
- Weigel : One More Round for the Conspiracy Theorists – Of course these yahoos will never give up. Why should they? When you’re convinced there’s a smoking gun, somewhere (or have hung your reputation on the argument), then you’re going to keep looking even when the room you said it was in turns out to be empty.
