Would that make it worth it? No. So where do we draw that bright line between “acceptable” cases of torture and “unacceptable” cases? Because you need a damned bright line from adding to “torture creep.” I mean, if it’s okay to torture all likely prisoners in order to catch OBL, how about his lieutenants? Or anyone in al-Qa’eda? Or anyone who is a terrorist? Or might be? Or a drug runner? Or might be? You can always come up with a justification for torture if the “end” is the determiner.
