I ended up watching TV at the hotel, and on the plane. Unfortunately, not much of what I watched was all that … um … likely to be watched (by me) again:
Falling Skies: It’s like War of the Worlds! No, it’s like the Tripods! No, it’s like Red Dawn, but with aliens instead of commies! No, it’s like those BSG episodes that were set on Caprica after the invasion! Only with angsty teens! No, it’s … well, it’s … just not that interesting. I mean, maybe it was an off episode (which can be said about any of these), but … well, I wouldn’t not watch an episode I happened to stumble across … but I wouldn’t go out of my way (or DVD it). (TNT) ![]()
Rizzoli & Isles: She’s a tough-as-nails female cop! She’s a quirky-but-sassy medical examiner with poor social skills! Together, THEY FIGHT CRIME! Oh, and bicker. But they’re good friends. Except when they’re not. I guess. It’s like Cagney & Lacey, except with fashion models! Now, I have nothing against police procedurals, but I found the characters (and supporting cast) annoying, and the story uninspired. I’ll probably passively avoid it in the future. (TNT) ![]()
White Collar: He’s a clever and arrogant ex-con-man! He’s the FBI agent who caught him! Together, THEY FIGHT CRIME! Yeah, it’s the offbeat genius helping the police trope (see The Mentalist and Castle), but nowhere near as interesting, well acted, or well written. A few amusing moments. (USA) ![]()
Law & Order: SVU: Always a dependable stand-by (like the whole L&O franchise, though I like the original best). I don’t watch it regularly, but it’s always entertainingly worthwhile stopping at when I run across it. (NBC, but actually USA-based reruns, I think) ![]()
Though it wasn’t a TV series, I did get to see a 10 minute preview of Rango, and it looked (and was) pretty fun. Might have to pick up a copy.
