Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- NEW YORK: Hate Group Predicts Numerous Employment Lawsuits – “And we’ll be right there to stir up the muck, pontificate in court, and get our name in the headlines!” Yeah, yeah — we heard it all before when they allowed blacks at the lunch counter, too.
- Decisions, decisions : Pharyngula – Everything’s a trade-off.
- ‘Aliens,’ James Cameron’s Explosive Ode to Motherhood, Was Released Twenty-Five Years Ago Today – Love that movie. Need to watch it again. Soon.
- Should Roadside Memorials Be Banned? – It seems to me I’ve seen sign-based memorials — on actual DoT-produced and maintained (though probably not paid-for) signs. That seems to get around at least some of the brouhaha of crosses, etc., plus provides both visibility (so people aren’t spending attention trying to read the sign) and lower distraction.
- Newsarama.com : Single, Orphaned, Alien: Big Changes for DCnU SUPERMAN – Because having a gritty, alienated loner will make Superman a perfect match for hanging out with Batman. Bleah. I liked that Supes and Lois were married. It worked well.
- Official Google Blog: g.co, the official URL shortcut for Google websites
- ZIP and RAR support now available in the Google Docs Viewer – Sweet!
- The Doctor as a Subway Map – Okay, that’s going to take some peering through, but it looks pretty keen.
- Obama: ‘Don’t Set Up A Situation Where You’re Guaranteed To Be Disappointed.’ Is That His Idea of Leadership? – The problem is not with compromise per se — I agree that it is a vital role of governance — but in what you’re willing to compromise, where you start negotiating from, how you deal with others who have no interest in compromise, and what the final result looks like.
- Reading No Longer Fundamental? – Thaaaat’s … just swell. But, by God, we can buy some more Predator drones, or protect private jets, or eleventy dozen other things.
- Southern lights greet ISS and Atlantis – Very cool.
