Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Labyrinthine – RLC for July / 27 / 2011 – Heh.
- Oh, no, there’s protein and salt in my food! : Respectful Insolence – There’s plenty of solid, scientific, reasonable nutrition information on what foods and food additives you should avoid to maximize your health. And then there’s the stuff Mike Adams talks about …
- Corporate Censorship – The Challenge – I am certainly against the government punishing people for their political or social or religious viewpoints. On the other end of the spectrum, I believe that it’s perfectly legitimate for people to choose to interact (or not) with others based on what those others say (you have every right not to invite someone to dinner who rants at length every time about some hot button topic you disagree with them on). In the middle is the muddy field of where what you say and do on your outside your job has a potential effect on your work and employer, some of which cases are clearer cut than others. I agree in principle that what you do off the job and on the job are two separate things — but I can see where in some specific cases folks might be concerned.
- Tea Party Nation: Obama Ineligible To Serve, Gay – “A sudden, covert ascendance to power seemingly assisted by foreign-like forces as an assault on vintage American conscience.” Wow, this litany of alleged crimes is a huge flash-to-the-past from when it was all about Bill Clinton. We’ve got drugs, murder, sex, theft, suicide, the whole nine, conspiratorial miles.
- Majority Opposes Any Cuts to Medicare or Social Security – Pretty much every survey has said this. And the TPers, the Corporate Sponsored Congresscritters, and the Compromisistas will ignore it.
- Late Night: Professional Climate Change Denialist Issues Climate Change Denying Study, Wingnuts Rejoice – I don’t want to presume the message is false because the messenger is a biased nutcase … but I’ll wait until it’s undergone some decent scientific review before giving it any serious consideration.
- Judge orders Nixon grand jury testimony unsealed – Crime Scene – The Washington Post – Cool.
- Unshakable R(Es)ults – We have a couple of rice cookers. I get paranoid about measuring the rice vs. water. Margie uses the knuckle method for the water. Guess whose rice turns out better? (A. Margie’s, of course.)
- Court To Andrew Breitbart: Shirley Sherrod May Go Forward With Her Defamation Lawsuit – Hope he gets nailed to the wall.
- The Flavor Of Your OJ Is A Chemically-Induced Mirage
- Mild Soap and Water Is Better for Your Wounds than Peroxide or Alcohol [Health] – Huh. Might look into this one further, since we’ve used HO for first aid in the past.
- Here’s What The Tea Party Wants: Chaos – To be fair to the Tea Party, many of the sentiments they have here about Boehner as a wishy-washy member of the surrender lobby who sees compromise as the highest goal … are how I feel about Obama far too often. Which does give me a slight bit of pause
- House Republicans are not just do-nothings — they’re spinning their wheels furiously – Are they simply throwing these bills out there, hoping that something might stick? Are they clearing off debts to their TP (and Corporate) supporters, or do they really believe this jazz? Are they trying to build up their Conservative Cred for future elections or campaigns? Or is it just that they are so averse to actually trying to govern with Those Awful Socialist Types that they can’t bring themselves to do anything that might pass both chambers and be signed by That Man Over There.
- Bachmann: Questions about gay therapy are out of bounds – If you can’t stand the heat, Michelle …
- Allen West Slams Tea Party For Turning On Him: ‘That Kind Of Schizophrenia I’m not going to get involved in’ – When you ride the tiger …
- China Puts US on eBay « Borowitz Report – Hilarious, if rather depressingly truthy.
