Kansas teen won’t apologize to Gov. Brownback over ‘you suck’ tweet
Shawnee Mission East teen Emma Sullivan insulted Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback over Twitter while on a school field trip to the state capitol last week. "Just made mean comments at gov. brownback and told…

I think that a lot of people aren't really up to date on the whole social media/internet thing and how it pertains to free speech…even though it seems like a no brainer…
That the governor's staff made a big deal over this is, well, more than a little sad.
Really have to wonder what they were thinking. Usually the social media monitors are part of the public relations crew, and this whole overreaction has been a PR nightmare.
Well, Sullivan seems clear that it's been a learning moment to her, as well, that Twitter isn't some private, anonymous resource, either.
The fact is, she was pretty rude (and in a juvenile way). I'd have supported suggesting she apologize, if the governor's office hadn't wildly overreacted.
True, but that isn't something that the school principal needs to be a bully about. It may have been rude but she is still allowed to say it even if it is childish and silly and not be persecuted for it.
It's something that should face social consequences, not legalistic ones. That's where the blurring of school comes in, but I agree that the administration overreacted as well.
