Menstruation from a evolutionary perspective

Interesting stuff. Bodies are just a bundle of compromises and attempts to imperfectly optimize conflicting outcomes. Not very intelligently designed, IMO. #ddtb

  1. This conflict is also played out in culture, as well as genetics — pro-choice is a pro-woman strategy, anti-abortion is a pro-man position. Sometimes, politics is a reflection of an evolutionary struggle, too.

This explains only so much of the political struggle. Interesting article. I’m wondering if my mother had reduced decidualization: 16 pregnancies in 13 years of abusive marriage. It is possible that her husband’s abuse was the major cause of her miscarriages, but that she was alrady prone to lose those pregnancies anyway. I wouldn’t know in my case–I had access to contraception that she did not, as well as being told by her church that contraception was Bad and Evil.
