In honor of North Korea, let's fine people for not singing patriotic songs properly
I mean, really? That's what America's all about?
Now, mind you, I find most public performances of "The Star-Spangled Banner" to be awful, and usually examples of trying to draw attention to the singer through rills and flourishes than in being an actual communal patriotic gesture.
But fining people for tweaking the words? Um … no, that's just dumb. and pretty certainly unconstitutional. #ddtb

I wonder how long it'll be before there's a whole section of the criminal code devoted to Patriotism Crimes.
Only a Republican would try to pass patriotism laws dictating what is an isn't unacceptable displays of patriotism. First up: How to properly sing the Star Spangled Banner. Next: Banning of dissent. #google+ #politics #Republicans #laws

Indiana Senator Wants To Fine People For Messing Up The Star Spangled Banner
Submitted by James Morgan
Indiana Republican State Senator Vaneta Becker wants “performance standards” for the Star Spangled Banner.
Becker of Evansville calls for the Indiana Department of Education to implement specific “performance standards” for the way the anthem is sang and played at any event sponsored by public schools and state universities.
The bill seeks to fine individuals $25 if intentional changes are made to the song.
If you’re at a Colts game, warning: don’t ad-lib.

Would there be a fine for singing it like this? "And the lay-nn nn nn nn nnd of the FRE ye ye ye ye ye ye ye (silent pause) and the Hooooo~ ooome of the Buh-RAYYYYYYYYYYYYve!"
Because that's about the only way I've ever heard it on TV.
Could we also fine political candidates who get their American history wrong? Please?
@Avo – Now there’s a proposal I can get behind!
Well, more than occasionally you will get someone riffing off the end of "FREEEEEEEE" in order to demonstrate how faboo a singer they are. But, yeah.
