  1. “The evidence of a late-19th century bike scare is preserved under a glass display case. From the looks of things, a lot of people feared that the new mode of transportation, with its crazy-looking steering contraption and horse-less two wheels, was destined to send us all to Hell in a bike basket — or to the hospital with “bicycle face.”

    You see, bicycle face, according to the display, was one of the “allegedly possible ailments” of riding a bike. Anti-bicyclists of the time claimed it was “the product of excessive worry over maintaining balance while riding.”
