Catch as catch can

While my annoyance at the TSA and its Security Theater at airports know no bounds … there are folks out there trying to carry stuff onto planes that I'd rather they didn't, and I'm glad someone's catching them. Now if they could just do so in a manner that wasn't quite so irksome. #ddtb

  1. Tear Gas on a plane – I can't even imagine. I wonder if the cockpit is able to be sealed off from tear gas.

Still irks me that they regard a pocketknife as a hijack risk. Once the determination is made not to surrender control of the plane for any reason, not even the fearsome box cutter is a hijack risk. At worst, you could harm one person before someone behind you delivered a solid kick to the derriere, and then you would be set upon by ten pissed-off passengers at once. Possibly more, but due to cramped quarters they'd have to take turns beating the crap out of you.

  2. As long as they make their escape while the plane is still in flight that'd be fine. Just give me a couple minutes to get their parachute ready for them. As a gesture of goodwill…

  3. I'll betcha I could threaten the same level of bodily harm with a ball point pen … or the broken edge of a plastic restaurant knife. And I'll betcha I'd be overwhelmed and beaten anyway if it looked like I was going to actually try and take over the plane.

  4. And that's one reason I posted it, +Jim Tatsuda — for all that there's a lot of useless security theater that the TSA does, and that they do things in a way seemingly calculated to cause people problems, there are some reasons to try and review what people are trying to bring on board.
