I guess that just illustrates how much context matters. Listening (and only listening to a radio broadcast) to both, neither seemed particularly statesmanlike. For his part, there didn't seem to be a bit of Republican rhetoric the prez wasn't willing to tweak their noses in with basically a catalog of the buzz words and phrases the contenders have been bantering about with in the primaries. Daniels' response did seem more explicitly partisan, lacking the nuanced reference style that the prez employed.
And I'll be the first to confess that I didn't listen to either of them. I just found the word spread interesting.
