Filibustering? What filibustering?

McConnell's assertion that Obama "got everything he wanted from a completely compliant Congress for two of those three years" would be hysterically laughable were it not such a vicious bald-faced lie.

The GOP Senate minority obstruction of any number of Democratic initiatives, through threatened filibusters over cloture votes — not to mention other initiatives that had to be dramatically watered down or compromised because of the need for a super-majority, not to mention the throngs of appointees similarly blocked — is part of the historical record, no matter what McConnell wants to claim on the campaign trail.

This isn't to say that the Dems don't have some responsibility here, either through Blue Dog waffling or Obama's poor negotiating strategies — or that there are no successes over the last three years. But McConnell has done everything but shut the government down (and threatened to do that) in order to keep the White House agenda at a stand-still. It's been intensely frustrating to watch, and thus even more maddening to read him lie about it. #ddtb
