The highest-ranking person yet has been indicted for the Massey Mine disaster in 2010:
'A "criminal information" accuses Gary May, the former superintendent of Massey's Upper Big Branch coal mine, of conspiring "with others known and unknown" to "hamper, hinder, impede, and obstruct the lawful enforcement … of mine health and safety laws" at the mine.'
He's "the most senior mining company official charged criminally in a mine disaster in at least 10 years," and the use of a conspiracy charge, plus a "criminal information" document, may indicate a plea agreement that would bring in higher-ranking Massey officials.
From everything I've heard about this investigation, I think it would be delightful to see some Massey execs serve some hard time. #ddtb
