While the article gets a bit too Omnipotently Psychoanalytical in places, I think there are some truths inside of it. A big one of which is that the liberal / Democrat mindset is expressed in a more policy wonkish fashion, and the conservative / Republican mindset is more moralistic — and that the latter tends to resonate more deeply. The solution, too, seems to make sense: liberal/progressives need to make clear the moral values that underlie their policies, and repeat them over and over, if they want to have the same gut impact as conservatives.
It's okay to have rational policy, and an intellectual discourse about it — but in many ways that has to build from an emotional predisposition to believe. Spock may be willing to go on at length about how much sense his suggestions carry, but until McCoy is enthusiastically on board, he won't get very far. #ddtb
