So the official announcement finally went out last night, and my New Position was proclaimed to everyone at The Company.
It’s a “lateral” promotion, so no big raise or keys to the executive washroom or hot-and-cold running secretaries or anything. In fact, I’m going to be doing much the same as I was doing previously (managing enterprise application development / acquisition and support), only with a remixed portfolio of corporate support groups — Legal, Sales, Quality, Travel, Safety. Essentially shedding my HR clientele but getting a number of new ones.
I’ve actually managed these groups, and the development managers over them, previously, but not quite in this combo — and HR was always a big distraction, honestly. I’m also doing a couple of other projects/initiatives for my boss to keep me busy in my copious spare time.
It’s not quite as significant a shift as I had been originally thinking I would go for after IT did a big internal reorg last fall, but it’s what worked out, and it should nudge me out of my comfort zones in a couple of areas (in fact, already has). And it’s a change I applied for, vs being assigned, which is also a good thing for me.
So the next time, you’ll apply for a job, and get assigned to an even better one (being too modest to have applied there)?
Congrats!
@Marina – Thanks!
