  1. Dave…

All cops can do this, and those along highways do do this.

This also happens at Airports if you are carrying *too* much cash.

The RICO laws are set up so police can legally steal from people, with no real recourse, unless they want to spend twice that amount of money to get your property back, and all legally since they are “arresting” your property. That it will get auctioned off to benefit the police agency in question, and the cop might end up “bidding” on the property and getting it at the auction, is I am sure has nothing to do with anything.

The only difference between cops and criminals is that cops get to legally do the same things to you that criminals eventually may or may not be caught and punished for.

  2. This is indeed a terrible story of abuse of authority. Fortunately, they didn’t hit these two poor geeks. I feel for my brothers.

Still, these days, I take everything I read a HuffPo with a grain of salt. It almost feels like a tabloid, and the comments are no better than the ones on Wingnut blogs. Just because I agree with their point of view much of the time doesn’t mean I don’t think they’re ignorant or obnoxious.

    1. @Derrick – Oh, I rarely quote/post/share from HuffPo — it’s goofy in more than one area. This one seems to be based on primary material and extensive quotes, but usually I drill down to one or more of stories they’re repackaging.
