I'm not sure I'd quite use the term "suicide mission." But the idea of a one-way mission to Mars, even with provisions made for long-term survival and support from Earth, seems pretty extreme, foolhardy … or, perhaps, brave and admirable.
Yes, I can see a million ways this could go wrong (starting with it being bankrolled by a private company). Still … boldly going where no man has gone before does have a certain romance to it. The devil, then, is in the details.

Mars One plans suicide mission to Red Planet for 2023
Four astronauts could take a one-way suicide mission to mission by 2023, if a new mission proposed by a Dutch company works out.

In what way is this a suicide mission? I don't get it. Is the idea that everyone who leaves home with no intention of returning is actually committing suicide?
Thus my demurral to the headline.
Of course, if poorly planned, then the description is a better one. And it's not clear how sustainable this mission is.
Yeah – that was clear. I was referring to the parent article. Seems like a dicey idea, and possibly one that'll never happen. But it just seems unfairly prejudgemental to call it suicide. And I've heard of a lot of scientists who have said they'd sign up for a one way mission. It's a thing you hear said a lot.
I have a sudden desire to watch star track… I am so excited for the future!
Star TREK!!! Star Trek.
