There is a book called Parable of the Talents by Octavia Butler. In it, Christian extremists have taken over American government and they kidnap children from their parents when they don't conform to their beliefs. The scene where the protagonist's daughter is taken is heart-breaking. It is upsetting how reality is starting to mirror dystopian fiction more and more.
I love Octavia Butler.
Removing children from "unworthy" / wrongthinking households certainly has historic precedent.
