Am I being particularly callous in thinking that nothing in particular "needs to be done" with the building, aside from the cleaning and patchwork, and that it's not the responsibility of Cinemark Theaters to be an involuntary part of "the healing process"?

No, no, I agree completely. Hell, this would be an excellent excuse to pull corporate in for some renovations, and that might help, but they're not obligated to it.
I'm increasingly towards seeing healing as an internal process, though I'm aware it's not independent of environment. That said, nothing suggests it won't cause triggers in people who go there. Call it a sunk cost and move on.
(and yes, I did just use "it" to describe three, quite separate, things)
There was a shooting, 12 dead, at a hotel near me ~7 years ago. The hotel changed names, sold off (but I suspect to a subsidiary) and still operates.
Too many damn massacres. 🙁
