Of course, we just had a big "You're both infringing" decision from a South Korean courtroom, too. And reading through some details of the case, I find a lot of the decision-making just doesn't pass the bellylaugh test. Though, to be fair to the jury, that may just show how incredibly screwed up our patent system is, rather than their judgment within it. (Double-tapping to zoom is patentable? Really?)
I'm sure we'll see more about this, and were I Apple I wouldn't be spending any of that billion dollars yet.

All of this shit is just dumb. Like you said how can you patent double tap. And nevermind the evidence not admitted of Samsung's dev devices. Its frustrating to see not only dumb patents go through but lawsuits because of them.
Patent offices collect fees, so it is in their best interest to sell as many as possible . . . leading to some of the worst intellectual property laws on the planet.
Have they patented touching the screen yet? I mean, they might not have built the touchscreen, but someone must have been genius enough to consider touching the screen… and then patenting that.
I'm waiting for a patent on having to hold the phone with the left hand due to poor engineering of cell antennas.
Eventually they'll patent touching themselves. Then they can sue anyone who watches porn.
