  1. This was never a problem for my wife when she was a teacher because she purposefully made herself unavailable to her students and purposefully never sought out her students on FB. The school counselors would do that kind of thing with specific accounts meant for monitoring that activity. But even then, it was never used as "evidence" against a student unless threats of bodily harm were involved.

They were used as tools to counsel kids who may be bullied.

  2. "Three school officials, including a counselor and a taser-wearing cop, came down hard. They interrogated her in an office and badgered the sobbing girl until she handed over her passwords."

If this were at my kids school, or worse, my kid, I'd be expecting some resignations. Fortunately I'm working on making sure my son understands his right to privacy and, just like we get a lawyer, should request the presence of his parents.

  3. +Andrew Eva, if you child fears you more than those willing to desecrate their rights, you may need to re-think things. My children respect me, they do not fear me. They know they can talk with me about their wrongs so that I know they will talk to me when they are wronged (even if they believe they were in the wrong).
