RIP, Michael O'Hare

He played Commander Jeffrey Sinclair in the first season of Babylon 5. Thank you, sir, for all the hours you entertained me.

  1. Damn. Another one my age or even younger. It’s quite disconcerting to have reached a point where I feel like I’m in the middle of an extinction event. Heck, I’m still adjusting to a world without Disney and Astaire.

I seem to be in a minority who thought that Babylon 5’s first season was the best — mostly because I enjoyed O’Hare’s harried bureaucrat more than Boxleitner’s war hero.

    1. @paintedjaguar – B5 has had a hell of a bad time with participants dying off. Kinda sad.

My feelings on S.1 are mixed. I liked the Sinclair character better than Sheridan. Everyone’s acting was a bit rough during the season, and O’Hare’s is among the more ideosyncratic; I sense his history in soap operas and the stage were a big part of this, and I think he would have settled down had he stayed on. (One of my “if I ever get to buy DVDs from a parallel world” goals is to pick up a series of B5 alternate histories, e.g., if O’Hare hadn’t left after S.1).
