So the idea of tasers was a good one — that there had to be some sort of way for police to force compliance that didn't involve (a) choke holds that could kill, (b) braining someone with a billy club, or (c) shooting them.
The problem is, as has been seen countless times, some police, given a (usually) non-lethal alternative seem more than willing to use it willy-nilly. "If it doesn't leave broken bones or dead bodies, it must be okay to use it freely, right? Right?"
With great power comes great responsibility …
