Which is really strange (given that it's been a successfully-selling book) and distressing (as Simone is one of the top female writers in comics today). Given DC's dubious relationships with its female readers / creators / characters, it's also more than a bit worrisome.
"Batgirl" hasn't been my favorite comic in DC's New 52, but it's been one I've read and enjoyed. I'll probably hang with it for a few months, just to give whatever new talent is being put on there a chance, but I'll be doing so with more than a jaundiced eye.
And, by the way, DC / Whoever The New "Batgirl" Editor Is … firing someone by e-mail is a chicken-shit move. If you can't talk to someone in person (or at a minimum by phone) to tell them they're off the job, you shouldn't be in management. I have fired folks for cause, and I have fired folks as part of lay-offs, and I would never that kind of crap.

Idiots! Gail Simone is one of the best comic book scribes out there. I hope somebody snaps her up quick-like.

If not for the fact that she would displace somebody, I can think of several Marvel titles I’d like to see her on. Captain Marcel, Thunderbolts, Deadpool (I have the middle issue of a 5-arc Deadpool story she did; she says they are very rare and expensive and that she doesn’t even own copies herself)… I’d even urge Marvel to create a new title for her. Maybe she could do something with the Scarlet Witch, who’s been seriously messed with in recent years.
I don’t care for Deadpool. I don’t read Deadpool. Indeed, Deadpool’s presence is why I’ve not picked up the NOW!ified Thunderbolts, sadly enough.
Captain Marcel? Isn’t he that wacky French super-mime? “Look, Captain Marcel has trapped MODOK … in an invisible box!”
That all said, I’d love to see Simone over in the Marvel Universe. I don’t know if there’s room for her with the Scarlet Witch, who seems to be locked into Hickman’s Avengers at the moment, but there are all sorts of opportunities, I’d think.
