Just finished rewatching Series 5 — the first season with the 11th Doctor. It was Kay's first time, and she was enthusiastic about getting it wrapped up before the Holidays …
For myself — I found myself enjoying it more than I did the first time around. Maybe I was just more ready for the prime characters — goofy Doctor, clever Amy, befuddled Rory, mysterious River — so that I could see the areas which were exceptions to that — shouty Doctor, frightened Amy, steadfast Rory, tragic River.
This season was deeply, deeply plotted, with bits and bobs from the first episode echoing all the way to the last. In some ways that might have been what also put me off about the first watch-through — it felt just a bit too pat, manipulated, structured, sub-plotted.
And another thing that helped me enjoy it was that Kay was really into it, speculating madly (and with a remarkable hit ratio), spotting stuff on-screen, drawing conclusions and extrapolating forward … her enjoyment of it was contagious.
And … that puts her just two series behind. _Allons-y!_
