Complete with doing the "Hustle"

Margie and I finally finished watching our DVR backlog of the BBC series, "Hustle" — a great drama series about a gang of London con artists (and the inspiration for, though somewhat different from, another of my regular favorites, "Leverage").

Each show was about a long con against a deserving high-end mark — though, unlike "Leverage," there was no Robin Hood spirit involved.  Led by master con man Mickey Briggs (Adrian Lester) and supported primarily by American grifter emeritus Albert Stroller (Robert Vaughan) and fixer Ash Morgan (Robert Glenister), it followed the usual format for these things: selection of the mark, the setup, the con seems to go terribly wrong, it turns out that the problems were not actual problems (or were part of the con itself) and the con concludes successfully. Plenty of bullet time and fourth-wall-breaking are usually involved, too.

The first four seasons are available on DVD here in the States, having been shown on AMC. The show went through a moderate cast change-up after that, but was still a bundle of fun. I've been recording it off the very odd "AXS" cable channel (h/t +Scott Randel).

An enjoyable series, and I'm sorry to see that it ended after S.8, but I don't regret at all any time spent watching it.  Highly recommended, if you happen to run across it on cable or disc (or, as seems to be the case for many of them, on YouTube).

  1. I didn’t know the series had ended until I watched the final episode, which made its termination very clear. I was saddened, as it was a fun show to watch.
