'Gun rights activists' paranoid fear of a possible dystopic future prevents America from addressing its actual dystopic present.'
Like Stewart, I'm looking for a range of responses to deal with firearms deaths — accidents, suicides, homicides — in this country. There's no single solution that's going to deal with the problem, and no radical "Take away everyone's guns" solution that's either workable nor anywhere near serious consideration.
But the fact that even discussion of possible incremental options related to restricting, regulating, monitoring, and/or controlling guns is blocked politically from any sort of serious discussion, at least not without folks influential and/or shrill launching into flag-waving invocations of Lexington & Concord and threats of violent revolution … says something very, very sad about this country.
