The Creepy Terror of Repetition

I'm probably the last person in the world to have noticed this, but Steven Moffat works a heck of a lot of creepy terror in Doctor Who through repeated, creepy, sometimes low-affect sentences: "Are you my Mummy?" "Hey, who turned out the lights?" "Don't blink." "Donna Noble has left the Library. Donna Noble has been saved." "Do not be alarmed. This is a kindness."

Utter, repeat, creepify.

  1. Yeah … I'm not 100% convinced that Moffat is best as overall showrunner. Some of his one-off eps have been the high points of the modern incarnation of the series, but his overall vision has sometimes been way to complicated for its own good.
