Rightfully criticized (including by the president) for turning this into some sort of honor game (as well as making it out as a strategy for leverage on the imminent debt limit crisis), and probably raked over the coals by his own side for straying off-message, Stutzman today issued the following statement, toeing the party line: “Yesterday, I carelessly misrepresented the ongoing budget debate and Speaker Boehner’s work on behalf of the American people. Despite my remarks it’s clear that the American people want both parties to come to the table to reopen the government, tackle this nation’s debt crisis, and stop ObamaCare’s pain.”
