David Brin's proposal is awfully tempting, for a Dem who lives in a fairly solid GOP district. Register with the majority party, in order to moderate the primary candidate selected. The problems I see are:
1. Parties react (sometimes poorly) to registration numbers. If the number of registered GOP went up in my district, would that affect the quality of Dems running and the support/funding they would receive?
2. I'm not sure my blood pressure could survive the kind of campaign lit that would flood my mailbox and voice mail.

If the lines are drawn so that you do in fact have only one choice, use that choice. Make sure to eat lots of complimentary hotdogs at free rallies too… one must sacrifice for the cause.

I have the opposite problem. I live in the middle of a very blue bubble in a very red state. This is nothing I can threaten that any republican congressperson would take seriously because they know my vote is going to the same guy who has represented my district for as long as I can remember (that's back to grade school).
