Rather than thinking that his death is a good reason to hope that Hell exists, I think it's a better reason to hope that reincarnation exists, so that he can take that learning and apply it in another life.

Fred Phelps, of "God Hates Fags" infamy, died today. +George Takei had some good words to say on the subject. But in one thing I disagree: I do, actually, wish that I had the time to go to his funeral and picket it.
My sign would say, "God loves you too, Fred."
I would like to get some friends to come as well. Maybe some other signs could say "You are a person worthy of love and respect," or "Being good to other people makes the world a better place." There are a lot of good signs we could stand there with.

If reincarnation exists and (as I suspect) he was tormented by homosexual urges (I just can’t call him “gay”) then perhaps this life is the punishment or education he was reincarnated to.
There will be no funeral to picket because his daughter Shirley says the don’t “worship death.” I believe it is because they know people would show up as pickets and they are afraid.
@Ellie – It would not surprise me.
