The difficult thing about any death penalty debate is that it's hard to get past the emotions, either the emotions about state-sanctioned killing or the emotions about creating a just end to an (assumed) bad guy.
Honestly, I'm morally comfortable with capital punishment — if we had a much higher confidence in the actual guilt of the individuals who are on death row. There are far too many cases where that confidence has turned out to be tissue paper. And I don't want to support a state-sanctioned killing based on poor police work, incompetent public defenders, or catering to popular outrage over a heinous crime.

Yeah, very Daily Show-ish. I just nagged Comcast that my bill was too high and got a year of HBO free with a renewed promo package. I generally agree with your sentiment on capital punishment also btw. If its a horrible person and we're 99.99% sure they're horrible, fry em. Need to be extremely cautious though as we rarely are that sure.
+Doug Dunfee To the extent that, even allowing for error, I don't trust enough the people who are telling us that we are really that sure. Too many cases of police railroading a guy, prosecutorial misconduct, and judicial idiocy have actually been revealed to make me feel at all confident that any given person on death row actually deserves to be there.
