Damn. We have one of these (5th Gen 80Gb). It has all our ripped music in its lovely little memory (synced to my PC), which means we use it to power our stereo system.
Better hope we don't drop it or lose it now.

Is your stuff recoverable from your PC? Or maybe use a Linux machine to get it copied off? http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ubuntu-linux-audio-software,2856-3.html
Oh, it's recoverable if need be. The PC is basically the backup. Actually, the PC itself gets backed up online, so in theory I have three copies of all the music. If the current iPod burst into flames, we'd get one of the iPod Touches with the 64Gb capacity. It's just a shame to see the old one join the dust-bin of obsolete Apple products.
64 and 128 gb iPhone 6 means it's not needed. Still sad though.
Yeah, see, I just want an mp3 repository tied to the stereo and/or portable into the car. I don't want it to make phone calls, too.
