That's how they got started — what the name actually means (Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle) — but Yahoo will be getting rid of its web directory shortly.
Which prompts a bit of nostalgia, but, honestly, when's the last time I visited that hiearchy? (Several years ago, at least.)

The Yahoo Directory will be retired at the end of the year.
I'm curious how much the Internet has grown since 1994. The article says that the 1994 web was "substantially smaller," but I suspect that may be understating it.
