Okay, I'm not crazy about Texas — but this is crazy

Freaking. In. Sane.

A teacher who went to a conference in Dallas that was held ten miles from the EBOLA HOSPITAL OF DEATH (it's more likely that more people have died on the highways between the conference site and the hospital than in the hospital) was put on medical leave for three weeks. Because, you know _anyone who has been anywhere around Dallas may be a new Ebola Mary.*

Crikey.

Other zaniness: 'A Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist for the Washington Post, who photographed Ebola victims in Liberia in September, was disinvited from a photojournalism workshop at Syracuse University even though he showed no signs of the disease for 21 days after his return to the United States. On Thursday, a woman flying on an American Airlines flight from Dallas-Fort Worth to Chicago vomited in the airplane, and was subsequently locked in a bathroom by flight staff. In Hazelhurst, Mississippi, a crowd of parents pulled their middle school students from class Friday after learning that the school’s principal recently had traveled to attend a family funeral in Zambia, which is in southern Africa and about 3,000 miles from the outbreak in West Africa.'

Given that five million domestic (and 400K international) travelers pass through DFW each month, we better start quarantining a lot of people. Because clearly WE'RE ALL DOOOOOOOMED.

  1. As Peter Sagal said, "…two times more people in this country have married Larry King than have come down with Ebola."

What are they thinking, that the teacher is going to bleed in the kids' mouths or something? Criminy Dutch.

  2. I….WHAT.
    Then again…I know school parents.

If they didn't do SOMETHING and one kid went home and said "My teacher's back from her trip to Dallas!" I bet you ten bucks some parent would go apeshit stupid and scream to the school board that their kids aren't safe.

And you know that's a bet you'd lose.

  3. Scott – I really did laugh out loud your Larry King comment. Also aren’t US women in more danger of being divorced from Pat Robertson?

World wide annual deaths from Ebola 4,500. We have to be careful of a epidemic.
Annual Murders in the US – 14,500

Reason there is no Surgeon General at the moment: Blocked by Republicans for saying guns are used to murder people.
