Kitchen Project – Day 5

"There's a hole in the yard like a great brown pit …"

So here we are, with the primary excavation finished. Not much progress Monday, as digging up finished on Sunday, and now we're waiting on the guys to install the helical piers which will hold up the new piece of house, which is a Good Thing.

The schedule for that is "this week," more detail TBD, none of which is aided (though really only inconvenienced) by dropping down to sub-freezing for the rest of the week.

It's still hard to visualize how this will all look in the end.

  1. Well, in theory, it is. We're extending the kitchen — and the basement underneath it — out about 8 feet. Which will add significantly to the size of the kitchen, and give us an additional room in the basement, and actually make the basement a walk-out. But the total footprint seems like it's not that much.

But a lot of dirt (and money) is definitely involved.
