Oooh … Google Now will know I'm headed home and kick the thermostat back on? That's awesomesauce. Now, if I could just get it to work …

You can finally control your Nest thermostat with Google Now http://trib.al/m0G2zt8

Ellen's uncle, the gear-head, spent a couple weeks trying to install Nest. He ended up sending it back.
+Fred Mast Really? Because I got it installed in just a few hours, and its been working great for us for at least a year now.
Granted, different heating systems are going to have a variety of wires, but the Nest installation guide seemed to have a variety of ways to connect up different sorts of heating/cooling systems. As I said, ours was a snap.
Was a hub involved in your project.? Ellen's uncle said that was his downfall
+Fred Mast … not sure what is meant by a "hub" in this context, so I guess not.
Oo! We've had our eye on the Nest for a while, so I think we're finally going to have to spring for it.
+Brittany Constable We've enjoyed ours a lot, and these new features are nice (including the "Hey, we're navigating home, so take us off of Auto-Away mode …").
Double-checking my facts. It may be Nest that replaced the "hub" product that did not install properly.
+Fred Mast Ah. I do see some stuff about "Hub" home control systems, including thermostats, so that might make sense.
I stand corrected. The problematic device is named Iris, sold by Lowes. It is wireless hub-centric and controls many household functions. Cheaper than Nest and apparently not user-friendly.
+Fred Mast There are a number of home automation systems that have come out in the last five-odd years. Those who are dedicated to such things have done some pretty elaborate and amazing stuff, but I get the impression the Nest is to those systems as the early Macintosh was to early IBM DOS PCs (and not-so-compatibles).
I've just ordered the new Ultron home control system. It's supposed to handle installation all by itself.
Wish me luck!
I hear it has no strings to hold it up. Can I suggest using sticky tape?
