Is Gay Marriage a dead end for the GOP?

Is it the end of the road for the GOP flogging this issue? I certainly hope so, except in my "I like to see the GOP hurting itself" moods. The longer GOP hopefuls keep beating this drum (and I'm looking especially at Huckabee, Cruz, and new-zany-of-the-month Jindal), the more reactionary and out of touch the party as a whole comes off as being, and potentially the more trouble they make for whomever is the eventual candidate (assuming, with some justification, it won't be any of them).

The reason I hope so is because the rhetoric — and the actions that state legislators and governors continue to take to hold back the tide here — hurts people. So here's hoping some sanity creeps in, sooner or later.
