Broadbanded no longer

Add "Comcast" to that boat. I did some of the Internet speed tests out there — Verizon, Ookla, AT&T, MegaData — and all gave me about 22+ mbps up, 6 down.

Which, honestly, is all I need, because I don't stream videos to my computer (and really don't want to pay for that much data, anyway), but it is kind of creepy.

Originally shared by +Les Jenkins:

By this new definition, my Internet service from AT&T U-Verse would no longer qualify as "broadband" because it tops out at 18Mbps.

Tons of AT&T and Verizon customers may no longer have “broadband” tomorrow
25Mbps minimum would leave 19% of US homes without broadband access.

  1. 27 up, 4 down on CenturyLink/Qwest.

Having gotten rid of our cable in favor of Netflix/Hulu/Tunnelbear for 1/10th the cost (and switching the company phone to VOIP via Vonage), having broadband is… sort of critical for Casa Testerman. 🙂

  2. Well, considering we are still pretty much in the Mbps ghetto, this is like quibbling over the extra weevil in the gruel. If broadband was pegged at 50+ Mbps by the FCC, then we might actually be talking about something, but the capitalist system just doesn't react that fast to change.
