Aside from being the clumsiest title in the world …
Okay, it looks like it'll be fun, in a kind of goofy way. More "Flash" in tone than "Arrow." What we see here are mainly fisticuffs and quips; hopefully there will be some decent drama to go with.
Vandal Savage is a perfect villain for this kind of thing.
Also interesting that they are (finally) giving the Atom his shrinking powers.
Yeah, I'm there.
"Finally?"
They made us wait two years for a Canary scream. 🙂
And more than that for Speedy to finally be Arrow's protege.
This is actually a gender-based pattern, I think, within DC, and not a good one.
Firestorm went from uncontrollable to basically sorted out in two episodes.
The Atom has been in about six episodes, making constant "I have a small problem" comment/jokes, and we know he's getting his thing.
Black Canary didn't even exist for a year of Arrow, then needed another year(ish) to get the scream.
Speedy's been waiting for two years and still isn't there yet.
….
DC Comics?
Batman had to deal with a broken back for six months.
Superman was dead for… a year?
Barbara Gordon was stuck in a wheelchair for twenty years.
The comic book examples don't quite track. Both Bats and Supes were (and are) major, multi-title stars. (What's remarkable is that they took that long — though both allowed for some interesting stories during their absence).
Batgirl, on the other hand, was, as a character, retired when the Joker shot her in The Killing Joke.
And that said, she was "stuck in a wheelchair" — but was also one of the key players in the DC Universe as Oracle, mysterious online consultant to Batman, the Justice League, the Suicide Squad, and served as the leader of the Birds of Prey. All from her wheelchair.
In fact, there was a huge outcry (and still a lot of hard feelings) about her being taken out of the wheelchair when the New52 reboot happened.
In fact, there was a huge outcry (and still a lot of hard feelings) about __________.
[insert status quo that makes cis white males comfortable, here]
I'm know you're right, but that is hardly a fact in favor.
Well, it speaks in part as to why it took so long for Barbara to get out of the wheelchair.
Of course it also speaks in part to the Guys in Suits not treating female characters well. (Indeed, you can get a lot of people incensed, with some justification, by how any/all of the Batgirls have been treated by DC Editorial over the years.) But that's a tangentially associated topic.
