The most recent brouhaha about scientific honesty in climate change calculations is whether scientists are being too willing to factor in overly-optimistic scenarios for mitigating climate change.
'So people want to hear that there's hope of 2°C. Politicians want to say that there's hope of 2°C. When asked, modelers are still able to produce scenarios that show 2°C. And nobody wants to be the one to pee in the punch bowl.'
Of course, the scientists and politicians of today (and me, too) won't get the worst of it. Our kids will have it worse, and our grandchildren more than them. So that whole, "Think of the children" thing — that should be seriously in play.
Because while it may be too late at this point to avoid a harsh outcome, things will be far worse than that if we don't do anything.
The awful truth about climate change no one wants to admit
It’s still “possible” to avoid horribly grim outcomes, but … not likely.
This is sadly going to be one of those things that our species looks back on with a face palm. I just fail to see another ending.
+Jon Weber My only hope now is that we have the luxury of a face-palm, and it doesn't become the Legend of the Failings of the Old Ones, murmured ritualistically around campfires at night after the hunting parties have returned with their scant gatherings.
+Dave Hill even that sounds dandy compared to some models.
Time to move.
+Scott Randel Alas, no real berths on generation ships being offered at this time.
I’ve wondered if the Koch brothers and the like are calculating that their best bet is to amass megabucks towards building the best Arctic bunkers possible.
