Stories and told and untold

My deepest regret in watching S.1 of Arrow is that The Dresden Files TV series never continued, because Paul Blackthorne rocks.

  1. +Andrew Tunstall , I like both the book series and tv series, although I'm behind on the books. In the books, Bob doesn't have a body and vampires play a large role in various plots. I'd have to say the books are slightly better than the show, IMO, because there's a lot more going on.

  2. +Marty Shaw A lot of details were changed, but Harry was Harry. And with all due respect to the fans of the Dresden books (of which I am one), their numbers are not so great as to make or break a TV series. I think the show was a decent adaptation of the books, even as, oh, Arrow is a decent adaptation (taking wild liberties) of the comic books.

  3. I agree. a few things were changed but they brought Harry straight from the book and kept him basically the same, which I loved. I've always had my fingers crossed that they'd bring the series back. But after what happened to Constantine, Dresden probably wouldn't last any longer than before.

  4. +Marty Shaw Yeah, it's interesting the parallels there in terms of lack of TV success. Is there something about the idea of the lone magician genre that doesn't resonate with audiences? Or is the statistical universe too small to draw any conclusions?

  5. Sadly, I think once you exclude Harry Potter, the fans of witches and wizards dramatically decreases. No proof of this aside from some writer friends of mine talking about how hard it is to get noticed with self-publishing when you write science fiction, horror, or fantasy.

Guess the sci-fi and fantasy crowd is just as limited for television, although sci-fi does seem to be clawing its way back up with a few shows.
