So in case you thought I am too politically correct

Um … histories and historical simulations are a perfectly appropriate spot for the Confederate battle flag (also the Third Reich flag, etc,). My suspicion is that Apple has either an intern or some automated process that is seeking out this imagery and behaving in this goofy fashion — I certainly expect these decisions will be reversed.

OK, this has officially gone too far. If there's any situation where the rebel flag would be appropriate it's in a game about the Civil War. Being that it was, you know, used by some of the Confederate armies and all.

Apple bars Civil War games from App Store over Confederate flag imagery
Movies and books featuring the flag remain undisturbed on iTunes.

  1. This is a knee-jerk reaction – its obviously not automated, or nazi swastikas would also be out of WW2 games. Selling a Confederate flag on its own is turning a blind eye to the symbolism it’s had since the 1950’s, when as you point out (and one of the few to do it) it was resurrected from popular obscurity is one thing, but to remove it when there is historical context is another.
