Whenever there is a shooting

"Can we finally talk about guns?"

"No, it's not about guns, it's about mental health! These are just crazy people!"

"Okay, let's talk about mental health spending then."

"The only way to protect against crazy people is more guns!"

To be fair, this is not just a Bobby Jindal thing. It's probably not just a GOP thing, either, though a lot of the governmental booting of the mentally ill to the curb dates back to Ronald Reagan in his own governorship days.

But, then, the whole "mental health" hand-wringing is just a standard kabuki tactic whenever there is a mass shooting (at least when done by someone who's white). Until the GOP (as the general leaders on toeing the NRA line) is willing to pony up some actual money to deal with mental health issues, then it makes perfect sense to talk about treating the immediate symptom: guns getting into the hands of people who shouldn't have them.

  1. Plus, Sandyhook proved that mass murder with guns no longer matters besides for our useless being able to gin up their 24 hour news cycle.

No restrictions on guns happened, the NRA won, best thing to do when an other one of things happens (And they will continue happen) is to shrug, ignore it and all of the news coverage as just more useless background noise in a dying culture/society.
